A blockchain developer on Upwork, Murat Çeliktepe, reportaed he was targeted in a scam disguised as a job interview. Murat was contacted on LinkedIn for a web development role and as a test was asked to work with npm packages from a GitHub repository.

After downloading and running the code, Çeliktepe discovered his MetaMask crypto wallet was emptied of over $530. The attack’s mechanics still remain unclear, but one option suggest malware, browser password theft, or network interception. Similar scams already have targeted other developers, emphasizing the need for caution with online job offers.
